Brewer’s Brief – October

Cameron’s Column

By Cameron Brewer – MP for Upper Harbour

Upper Harbour’s new electorate boundary will soon include Westgate, Whenuapai, Herald Island, Schnapper Rock, and Rosedale. In the meantime, I’ve been busy meeting many new constituents and businesses in these areas.

Upper Harbour continues to face enormous growth. It was good to host our Minister of Infrastructure and Transport (among other things), Hon Chris Bishop in the electorate on 1 October. In my car I highlighted our incomplete motorway connections. He also met with Westgate’s leaders to discuss the importance of better connecting that ever-growing precinct to SH16 and SH18. He got the message. We just need to keep calling for the required funding to be prioritised.

With 100,000 more people and 40,000 more houses coming to the NorthWest in the next couple of decades, there’s much more infrastructure required. As your local MP, I will always strongly advocate for our fair share.

My electorate office at 102c Hobsonville Road will continue to operate business as usual right up to and after the General Election on 7 November. My staff are experienced and have good contacts across central and local government. Please contact us at upperharbouroffice@parliament.govt.nz at any time if you think we can help, and if we can, we will!

Make sure you’re enrolled by October 25 at your current address, and not your old one three years ago.

Enjoy the longer days. BBQ season is pending!

Out & About

Lincoln Heights School welcomed to Parliament

Lincoln Heights School students along with Principal Leisha Brynes visited Parliament and had many good questions for their local MP.

West Harbour Firefighters

On September 11: The MP took the opportunity to catch up with the team at West Harbour Fire Station and thank them for all they do in fire and emergency.

Kmart Westgate opening with West Harbour school

Kmart Westgate is now open! The Northwest's latest addition is the largest Kmart store in New Zealand, open 24 hours and employing over 200 people. It was great for the MP to join Kmart's local team, student vocalists from West Harbour School, as well as neighbouring MP Hon Chris Penk, and successor National candidate, Jessica Rowe.

Greenhithe Tennis Club

The MP caught up with locals at an open day for the Greenhithe Tennis Club. The club runs on dedicated volunteers and kind sponsors.

Full credit belongs to former Auckland Mayor Len Brown for getting the City Rail Link off the ground, which was then commenced with the John Key National Government and completed with the Christopher Luxon Government. The CRL's official opening was a huge milestone for New Zealand.

Upper Harbour news...

Scott Road works begin 5 October

We have seen a number of fixes for the issues raised at the MPs Scott Point Roads public meeting held last April where local residents met with Auckland Transport officials, Hobsonville Church and Settlers' Cemetery families and Councillor Watson in attendance. Cameron and his Upper Harbour electorate office have been busy advocating for locals to local government and Scott Point residents now have:

☑️ Squadron Drive and Joshua Carder Drive have been linked up providing a second route in and out.

☑️ Tahingamanu Road speed bumps have been fixed allowing emergency service to more smoothly transport Orion Point residents.

☑️ 5 October through to late February 2027 - Works to commence on Scott Road, including: Construction of a new footpath, cycleway and parking bays; road resurfacing and pavement upgrades and road marking; and installation of new street lighting.

Auckland Transport have said most works will occur between 7.00am and 7.00pm, although some night works may be required between 8.00pm and 6.00am. Access will be maintained throughout the project. While every effort will be made to minimise disruption, residents may notice increased traffic, noise and activity during construction. To help avoid delays, residents and visitors may choose to use the new temporary road between Squadron Drive and Joshua Carder Drive as an alternative route during the works. Please note this route is intended for light vehicles only, as heavy vehicles are not permitted to use this road.

This includes:

  • A single-lane closure on Scott Road between the Clark Road roundabout and Thomas Rielly Avenue from 9.00am to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday
  • Temporary traffic lights and traffic controllers to assist vehicles and pedestrians
  • A period of 24-hour lane closures later in the project while pavement works are completed
