It’s been another busy three weeks as the campaign continues to ramp up, with only 51 days to go until election day.
A few highlights:
Spending time with Songheng Sor and Kemheang Ouch at Silverdale High Bakery, having a go at making their award-winning steak and cheese pie from scratch. Songheng has worked 13 hours a day, seven days a week for the past four years building their business. That’s the kind of hard work and determination we should celebrate and reward. National believes people who work hard, take risks and get ahead should be encouraged to succeed — not continually hit with more taxes. He let me keep all the pies so I took them to the Hamilton Christian Night Shelter.
Attending Onam celebrations with Tama Potaka and continuing to support the many cultural communities that make Hamilton such a great place to live.
Attending the Nepalese community fundraiser following the recent tragedy in Nepal. It was a moving evening and an opportunity to stand alongside our local Nepalese community at an incredibly difficult time and raised $35,000 to Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
It was great to have Minister of Police and Corrections Mark Mitchell in town, meeting with our SuperBlues and local business groups. His visit was a timely reminder of how bad things were 3 years ago with ram raids out of control and violent crime affecting businesses and communities from Hillcrest, to Rototuna to Michael Hill at the Base, basically everywhere. Now we hardly hear about it thanks to our Law and Order reforms and tough on crime policies.
Plenty of door knocking, street corner meetings, sign work and conversations with voters across the electorate.
Back in Parliament this week until likely midnight Saturday we have now passed all stages of the Indian Free Trade Agreement which will unlock massive opportunities for our economic growth and next week all stages of the Planning Reforms will be complete.
Upcoming Events
Our National campaign launch is being held on Sunday 27 September at the new New Zealand International Convention Cebtre in Auckland. We really need as many people as possible to come along and support us for the day. Please come up and join us. You must be registered and a current member to attend, so this is a good excuse to renew your membership now if you haven’t already.
