Brewers Brief - November 2025

07 November 2025

Many of you filled out my recent electorate survey. The results were comprehensive and sent a clear message about what is important to our community.

Your responses showed a clear focus on the everyday pressures Upper Harbour residents’ face. The top concerns were the cost of living, health services, jobs, and economic growth.

Transport was also very prominent. A large majority of you reinforced what we all know - local infrastructure is not keeping pace with growth.

On transport matters, common comments related to roading around Hobsonville and Westgate, and in particular, Brigham Creek Road and a desire for traffic lights or a roundabout. The need for better motorway connections, including west facing on and off ramps at Squadron Drive, was also conveyed strongly.

We received a large volume of comments about on-street parking and the pressure it places on local streets. Several responses raised flow-on effects for rubbish collection, deliveries, and emergency access during busy periods.

On public transport, respondents raised bus and ferry services and reliability, not to mention more options around safe cycling and walking routes.

I live in the heart of our community – in Hobsonville Point, overlooking the Greenhithe bridge. I inherently understand the challenges our fast-growing neighbourhoods face, and I will continue to push for better infrastructure and services.

Thank you for your survey responses. They reinforce the work we’re doing in Wellington to strengthen the economy, and the work we must step up locally to meet the enormous population pressures in Auckland’s North-West.

My office door is always open to assist you on any local issues you may have, or frustrations you may be experiencing with government departments and the council.

Thankfully, after a long year for all, summer is not far away!

Life jacket bill passes First Reading

Cameron’s compulsory ‘life jackets for kids on small boats' private member's bill has passed its First Reading and has gone to select committee.

During First Reading speeches, he showed a map with the many different regional rules. Cameron’s Life Jackets for Children and Young Persons Bill will establish one single rule across the country!

First Reading vote: 106/11. Act voted against. Te Pati Maori MPs were absent.

MP collects for Breast Cancer

Cameron collected for the Pink Ribbon Appeal, with other volunteers at North West Mall, to raise money for research, awareness and support for people suffering from Breast Cancer.

South Seas Film School going strong

Our MP toured South Seas Film School in Ellice Road, Wairau Valley, with neighbouring MP, Dan Bidois, and Campus Manager, Wanda Thurlow.  Established over 30 years ago, South Seas is well-known for producing industry-ready graduates.

Auckland Transport in MP’s sights

In Hobsonville Point, there are seven ‘speed tables’ along Tahingamanu Road. By Auckland Transport's own admission, they were incorrectly built too high, signed off by them, then vested in Auckland Council. AT now claims it could cost them over $2 million to make them compliant! Cameron has written to the Mayor asking for them to be fixed, following many complaints from local residents.

Constituents thank office team

It's nice when constituents pop into the office and say thank you to Cameron and the electorate team - this time with baking! The MP’s office is here to help when it comes to the likes of Government departments and to navigate council. UpperHarbourOffice@parliament.govt.nz
