Brewer's Brief - August 2025

04 August 2025

The Government is proposing to replace NCEA with new national qualifications that ensure young people have the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. For more information, visit: Replacing NCEA to transform secondary education | Beehive.govt.nz

Cameron has been busy visiting local business in the Upper Harbour electorate. If you would like the MP to visit your business or organisation, please email the office at UpperHarbourOffice@parliament.govt.nz

The MP spent a productive afternoon meeting with residents at Summerset village, Hobsonville Point. Discussion included National’s intention to amend the 2003 Retirement Villages Act next year.

The MP hosted another good Youth Advisory Panel session in the office. Upper Harbour Youth MP and Massey High School student, Harveer Talwar, also took the opportunity to report on his time at Youth Parliament.

The MP met with two of Upper Harbour's councillors recently. Cr Wayne Walker and Cr John Watson represent the Albany Ward.

Cameron attended a hilarious quiz night fundraiser for the North West Toy Library at the West Harbour Tennis Club. His 'Here For the Snacks' team came about mid-field, but claim that on a per capita basis... they effectively won!!

Our MP met David George, CEO of Sport Waitākere to hear more about their local life jacket hub next to the YMCA in Massey. Cameron’s Life Jackets for Children & Young Persons Bill is set to have its first reading. Then, public submissions will open!

One of the most enjoyable roles on an MP is assisting local people to become Justices of the Peace.  Only an MP can put forward a candidate for JP consideration.  If you want to find out more about this wonderful community volunteer role please contact Linda Cooper JP at the electorate office:

Cameron is here with recent applicant and Hobsonville Point resident, Craig Glover, and Linda Cooper.

Cameron attended a centennial celebrated by the Massey Birdwood Settlers Association at its community-owned hall on the corner of Don Buck and Red Hills roads. A huge thanks to its many long-serving volunteers!

The Government’s investing more than $120 million into building 137 extra classrooms in Auckland, including 14 new classrooms in Upper Harbour. This is great news for local Massey High School and Lincoln Heights School! Read more on: https://www.beehive.govt.nz/release/120-million-auckland-school-property-growth-plan

Great news for families in Upper Harbour! Qualifying households are now entitled to a refund of 40% of early childhood costs up to a maximum payment of $120 a week. This means the maximum payment a family can now receive is $6,240 a year.
