Wellington business leader Matthew Evetts has been selected to stand as National’s candidate in Kenepuru for the 2026 General Election.
Mr Evetts was previously the national lead of KPMG’s cybersecurity practice and has held similar roles at Datacom and Optic Security Group. Currently, Matthew runs his own business providing leadership and transformation services.
“National is fixing the basics and building the future,” Mr Evetts says.
“In response to sharp fuel price increases as a result of the Iran conflict, timely, temporary, and targeted support is ensuring sound fiscal management remains in place while those who need it most receive relief. Getting it wrong now will have long-lasting consequences that are difficult to unwind, just like we saw in the aftermath of Covid.
“This has seen 143,000 working families get $50 more per week until fuel prices return to normal. It’s also seen care and support workers receive a 30 per cent increase to their mileage costs. This extra support means Kiwis, particularly those in Kenepuru, continue to receive the care they need.
“National is fixing the basics in the New Zealand economy. We have stopped wasteful spending which has reduced Labour’s 32-year high inflation, and lowered interest rates saving the average family $10,000 on their mortgage.
“National is the only party with a plan to build New Zealand’s future. A vote for any other party places our economic recovery at risk with a Labour, Greens, Te Pati Māori Government only interested in taxing more, spending more, and borrowing more.
“We know what their policies would result in - high inflation and high interest rates which will only make the lives of those in Porirua and North Wellington harder.
“That is why I will be campaigning hard to re-elect a National Government and to earn the right to represent Kenepuru as their MP.”
