Kiwis are among the hardest workers in the world, but we don't make as much for every hour worked as other countries. Over the last 40 years New Zealand has developed a productivity problem. National is fixing it.
Our Economic Plan means more jobs and higher wages. It means more money coming into local communities. It means we can afford more doctors, nurses, teachers, and better schools and hospitals.
We are making good progress. New Zealand is now growing faster than the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and Japan. Exports are up $20 billion, inflation is down from a 32-year high, interest rates have fallen, and 220,000 new jobs are forecast by 2030 with wages growing faster than inflation.
But there’s a lot more to do. If we stick to the plan that’s working, we can to build a future where hard work is rewarded and Kiwis can get ahead.
National’s Economic Plan at a glance:
Responsibly managing the books: a surplus in 2028/29 and debt below 40% of GDP over time
Cutting red tape and supporting innovation: replacing the RMA and ending the war on farmers
Delivering world-class education: an hour a day of reading, writing and maths, replacing NCEA, and more trades training
Building infrastructure for the future: roads, hospitals, classrooms and energy.
