Welcome to my September newsletter!
One aspect of my job I particularly enjoy is engaging with young people and students in Ilam. We have 32 schools in Ilam as well as the University. The University of Canterbury has just over 22,000 students, roughly the same size as Taupo. On top of that there are staff and other employees making it the largest employee and an important part of the fabric of Ilam.
Each year I host a school leaders’ breakfast where I learn what issues face our young people and get their views on various topics.
I also hosted the official launch for the Children and Young People’s Health Collective Manifesto. Children’s health remains a critical priority and the event provided an opportunity for constructive dialogue with groups such as Canteen, Child Cancer Foundation, Heart Kids NZ, Kidney Kids NZ, Make-A-Wish and Ronald McDonald House to improve outcomes for our young people.
