Brewer's Brief - July 2026

02 July 2026

By Cameron Brewer – MP for Upper Harbour

It was a pleasure to welcome the Minister of Education, Hon Erica Stanford, to Upper Harbour recently to see firsthand the growth challenges our area and local schools face.

At Scott Point School, the Minister announced another 10 classrooms, on top of the 10 nearly completed. Principal Pam King and her team welcomed us and took us around through their fast-growing campus. As part of the Minister's latest school property boost, Upper Harbour will receive 20 new classrooms in total, including more classrooms for Massey Primary School and much-needed upgrades for Massey High School.

This is welcomed investment in our growing community, making sure schools have the facilities they need as more families move into the area. What’s more, by using more standard and modular builds, we can deliver these classrooms faster and at lower cost, making every dollar go further.

Making the most of the Minister of Education’s visit last month, I also hosted another local Principals' Forum in my electorate office which saw a range of issues discussed with our local primary and secondary school leaders. Then later, we joined new principal John Hunt and establishment board chair Erica Wills at Te Pae School (pictured). The brand-new primary school, just off Fred Taylor Drive near Westgate, will open for term one 2027.

It's outstanding to see significant investment in our local schools by this Government.

Squadron Drive/Joshua Carder Drive link now open

It was great to see the MP’s community meeting bringing in officials helped to be a rallying opportunity for local Scott Point residents to get behind a push for an alternative Joshua Carder link. Full marks to passionate locals and AT for creating and constructing the solution that provides for a second entry and exit to the Point. Hopefully this will relieve some of the traffic congestion around the school.

Tahingamanu speed bumps fixed

To the delight of Orion Point Village residents and emergency responders, Auckland Transport has completed the lowering of the offending high humps in record time with minimal disruption.

Plans for bus service moving forward

Auckland Transport continues to update the MP and his electorate office on the development of a bus service for Scott Point. Watch this space!

Clark House is a very special landmark building in Upper Harbour. Completed in 1902, this Category 1 Hobsonville homestead will be restored to its former glory, thanks to a low-rise residential development on either side and behind, after close work with Heritage New Zealand. Owner and Auckland developer, Dave Fermah, gave the MP a tour and insight into the project. Its profile is well worth a read: www.heritage.org.nz/list-details/126/126

With Upper Harbour taking Westgate into its new electorate boundaries, it is great to see new businesses like Eden Noodles, near Te Manawa library, open.

The MP was welcomed by Hobsonville School and their rangatira (student leaders) who explained their covered court project. It was heartening to listen to their enthusiasm and understanding of the project and the potential impact on the Hobsonville community. They have worked hard to achieve the foundation stage, and are very hopeful to have the covered membrane on this winter so the space can be used in all weather. To support this brilliant local project, or if you are a local business looking for sponsorship opportunities, contact the school on office@hobsonville.school.nz

The MP was honoured to be with Dame Naida Glavish and Croatian Ambassador to Australia and New Zealand, Her Excellency Betty Pavelich. Also pictured were local National candidates with our Ethnic Communities Minister, Hon Mark Mitchell and Goran Katich, Croatian Cultural Society president. Croatians have been such a positive part of the New Zealand story for over 160 years.

Since the first Science Roadshow in 1988 it has delivered live shows, hands-on exhibits and teacher resources that connect our Kiwi kids with science and technology and the world around them. The MP enjoyed trying things out with West Harbour & Hobsonville School students.

Always a great turn out at Upper Harbour morning teas with various MPs. The next one will be at Greenhithe School Hall with Hon Chris Penk from our neighbouring Kaipara ki Mahurangi electorate on Friday, 17 July, 10am. All welcome so please join us on the last Friday of school holidays! See further details on upcoming events below.
