Budget 2026 confirmed the Government’s strong economic management over the past two years is paying off. Growth is forecast to continue, with 220,000 more jobs on the way. Wages will also rise faster than inflation.
By stopping wasteful spending, finding savings and making careful choices, we are getting the books in order and keeping taxes low while continuing to invest in the frontline services and infrastructure that Kiwis care about.
The economy is expected to grow, on average, by 2.7% each year over the next four years. Despite global turmoil, New Zealand will also return to surplus in 2028/29 (one year faster than forecast), and thankfully our borrowing will be reduced by $6 billion.
The Government is investing in key priorities like roads, police, schools and health. We’re delivering that with savings, so Kiwis still get the quality frontline services they deserve while we continue to keep taxes low and get the Government books in order.
We are overhauling the public sector to improve services, lift productivity and deliver better value for money by streamlining the number of government agencies and reducing the number of public servants. This will result in $2.4 billion of savings over four years which will be redirected into frontline services.
This Government is securing the future, and Kiwis can look forward with confidence.
The Upper Harbour Youth Advisory Panel met on 3 June to discuss a number of issues important to local youth.
Its local survey on social media harms, confirmed strong support for any social media ban for under 16-year-olds, and widespread concern across Upper Harbour over the likes of deepfake technology. The Youth Advisory Panel decided to send the survey results to the Minister of Education and the Education & Workforce select committee.
The Panel also discussed mental health, and decided to write to the Mental Health Minister seeking information on how and where service delivery had improved for young Kiwis.
News from Budget 2026 that funding will be transferred from cancelling fees-free for third year university students to creating more vocational training opportunities in schools was also discussed.

Cameron went door-knocking in Whenuapai, which will be in Upper Harbour from this election. Home to RNZAF’s Auckland base, locals appreciate the Government is backing our defence personnel and heavily investing in lifting our capability, including better integration with Australia and other partners.

Great news for industry and vocational training! Budget 2026 doubles trade training opportunities, with the number of Trades Academy places increasing from 10,000 to 20,000. An extra 1,000 Youth Guarantee places have also been funded - all thanks to the end of final-year Fees Free! Businesses tell Cameron they need more work-ready school leavers. Local Massey High School will also be delighted as a leader in trades education. Our new Industry Skills Boards also get $15m to develop vocational secondary school subjects.

As Small Business Minister, one of Cameron’s first visits was to go back to Newmarket, where he worked as head of their business association from 2005 to 2010.
He enjoyed catching up with Newmarket Business Association CEO, Mark Knoff-Thomas, and his team who do an outstanding job.

Dodson is one of New Zealand's iconic brands when it comes to motorsport and high-performance cars. Their subsidiary company, WGD, builds and exports precision componentry and gearboxes. Cameron enjoyed a brilliant visit to WGD's specialist machine shop in Rosedale with Dodson leader, David Sweas. After many site visits, the Minister can confirm today's manufacturing is delivering highly skilled young Kiwis, with many getting paid top dollar. Rosedale will be part of the Upper Harbour electorate after the election.

With 80,000 books in-stock at their Hobsonville warehouse, our friends at Book Hero continue to experience solid growth online. Also, their cute bookstore on Rawiri Place, opposite Hilton Brown, is proving to be a popular weekend destination.

The Minister recently spoke on BNZ Business Breakfast about his decision to expand the Government's AI Advisory Pilot by 200% - up from 50 SME business to 150 SME business.

Cameron visited Limn Gallery, which showcases some fantastic urban and contemporary art and is well worth a visit at Catalina Bay during the weekend. He also had a good catch up with his Youth Advisory Panel deputy chair, Brodie Hole, at a sunny Farmers' Market.

Great news Kiwi music lovers! Iconic songs like April Sun in Cuba and I See Red are part of New Zealand's soundtrack. However, some best-known recordings from the 1970s are close to falling out of copyright. That means artists risk losing rights and income. We've listened to our local music industry and we are fixing it. National backs Kiwi artists in Music Month!
