Tim's May Update

06 May 2026

I want to keep serving as your local MP, and as part of a National Government. I'll be campaigning on our track record from the last three years in Kapiti and, to give you a taste, here are ten local things I'm proud of (or click for the video):

  • The new breast cancer clinic we opened in Waikanae, with expanded free access up to 74 years
  • The new cancer clinic coming to Kapiti so local patients can get treatment closer to home
  • The new expressway to Levin already under construction
  • New electric trains coming for Ōtaki, multiple times each day, including weekends
  • A 50% increase for school property funding
  • Learning support coordinators for every primary school
  • Structured learning is improving results for our children
  • Funding for Ōtaki River cliff protection
  • Extra funding for the Kapiti health shuttle
  • Fast-track legislation to support almost 7000 new homes across the region, and a reservoir and wastewater in Pukerua Bay.

New Cancer Clinic in Kapiti

I'm so excited sharing this news!

I've been fighting for an infusion centre in Kapiti for four years and now it is happening! It's funded, it's locked it, and it's on its way. This is all part of our plan to deliver more health services closer to home, so our local community get better health outcomes.

It's special for me as it's a project I've worked on from the very start: identifying the issue, fighting for it, and now getting it agreed to and funded.

Fuel situation update

We’ve just locked in an agreement with Singapore to keep fuel coming and New Zealand moving. Petrol and diesel supplies have been maintained throughout thanks to our early work on pragmatic solutions and prices have even dropped recently.

This new deal means petrol and diesel will keep flowing even in uncertain times, and we’re building stronger reserves at home to protect our country from global shocks and disruption.

No town left behind

My member's bill was drawn out of the 'biscuit tin' last week. It's all about helping families in towns like Ōtaki, which sometimes slip through the cracks. It forces all Government agencies to align their boundaries for service, whereas currently some treat Ōtaki as being Kapiti, some Horowhenua, the odd one even Porirua.

My bill will make it easier for families to get support, and it will simplify relationships between all those staff who work to support us.

Support for Kapiti Flights

We are providing loans to help Air Chathams and Sounds Air maintain services during times of higher fuel prices. Our air links are critical and National believe in supporting regions like Kapiti. Just one more little win on the board. You can read more here.

Indian Free Trade Agreement

Labour said it couldn't be done and wasn't a priority, New Zealand First want to oppose it and hurt Kiwi businesses; National have delivered it in record time!

This deal brings tens of billions of extra dollars into our economy over the coming years, and that's important because that is how we fund things like healthcare, education, Police. This is a real win for us and we should all celebrate it.

Anzac Day in Kapiti

It was another special day. This year I invited local schools to help me lay wreaths on behalf of our community, and in the process I received some amazing Anzac-themed art for the local office. Thanks to everyone who was part of these services; here are a few photos from the day.

Business After Five with economist Brad Olsen

Keen to hear an independent view of the budget while you grab a drink with friends? Join Infometrics Economist Brad Olsen and our local community at the next BA5 at the Kapiti Boating Club. June 3rd.

Brad Olsen is the Chief Executive and Principal Economist at Infometrics and is widely recognised as one of New Zealand’s most respected and engaging economic commentators. Brad calls it how he sees it – without fear or favour – in an engaging, witty, sometimes funny, but always informative way that helps audiences understand the economic forces shaping New Zealand and the decisions that sit ahead.

Join our team

I can't win this alone; please help me.

  • If you like hiding behind the scenes, I need help
    • delivering a few flyers later this year,
    • making a few phone calls,
    • offering fences I can put a sign up on come September, or help put them up and take them down.
  • If you like being part of a big team we need people to
    • stand on a street corner with us waving signs later in the year,
    • join us at local events,
    • walk with me as we knock on doors.

That's it for this month.

Tim
