Simeon Says! 27 April 2025

27 April 2025

On Friday, I joined thousands of locals from across East Auckland at Stockade Hill to commemorate ANZAC Day. April 25 is perhaps the most significant date on New Zealand's calendar, as we remember those brave Kiwis who have served and sacrificed to defend our freedoms and democracy abroad. I am always encouraged by the importance we collectively place upon ANZAC Day, with young and old turning out in droves each year to ensure we never forget. I also want to say thank you to everyone who generously donated on Poppy Day to support the RSA. If you didn't get a chance to donate but would like to, it's never too late, and you can support the RSA year round by visiting their website here.

Health Infrastructure Plan

I recently delivered a major announcement regarding New Zealand's health infrastructure, with the release of the first-ever Health Infrastructure Plan, which sets out a national, long-term approach to renewing and expanding the country's public health facilities.

It is no secret that our health system is suffering from ageing and poorly-maintained infrastructure, compromising the ability of our hospitals and frontline services to deliver the timely, quality healthcare that Kiwis deserve and expect. The Health Infrastructure Plan will provide certainty across the country and identifies the more than $20 billion investment required to meet future health needs, including a new hospital in South Auckland.

Introducing Pakuranga's Youth MP

Every three years Parliament plays host to Youth Parliament, where young Kiwis from across the country come together to represent their communities and the youth voice at the seat of our democracy. With Youth Parliament taking place in July this year, I recently called for young people in the Pakuranga electorate to put their names forward to take on the role of Pakuranga Youth MP, and to represent our community at this prestigious event.

I am excited to introduce Sam Swallow as Pakuranga's Youth MP for 2025. Sam is a Year 13 student at Macleans College, and serves as a School Prefect and Cultural Captain for Hillary House, while involving himself in a range of extracurricular activities, including as a member of the senior football team, premier choir, and as a lead in the school musical. I know you will all join me in wishing Sam well for the role! Keep an eye on my social media pages for updates on his tenure as our Youth MP.

May Electorate Newsletter

My next Electorate Newsletter will soon be delivered across the Pakuranga electorate, to provide local residents with an update on what I have been up to as their MP. Those of you who have lived in the electorate for some time will know that I produce these newsletters several times a year, as I believe it is important to keep you informed and to ask for your feedback.
As part of this newsletter, I am running a brief survey to seek your views on the state of the nation and the issues you care about. You can fill out the survey by clicking here, or by scanning the QR code on the newsletter once it's delivered to your letterbox.
