Former CEO of Bayleys Auckland Lloyd Budd has been selected by local party members to be National’s candidate in Whangārei for the 2026 general election.
Mr Budd has spent more than 25 years as a real estate professional, including 10 years with Bayleys, being awarded ‘Property Professional of the Year” in 2018. Lloyd was born and raised in Whangārei, attending Whangārei Primary, Intermediate and Boys’ High School.
“It is an honour to be selected to stand for a National Party that is fixing the basics and building the future,” Mr Budd says.
“First, I would like to acknowledge Dr Shane Reti. Shane has served our community and country well over 12 years as an MP and Minister. He has earned a well-deserved break, and I wish him all the best.
“When National came to Government, Labour’s reckless mismanagement of the economy had left Kiwis worse off. Labour drove up debt by $100b which increased inflation to its highest rate in 32 years – making life harder for Kiwis.
“That is why National has spent the last two and a half years fixing the basics by ending wasteful spending, lowering taxes, reducing inflation and bringing down interest rates saving Kiwis as much as $10,000 on their mortgage.
“With the war in Iran now adding further pressure for Kiwis, National’s sensible economic management means the Government can also provide targeted, time-limited support to those most affected by rising fuel costs, without jeopardising the country’s long-term security.
“National is also building the future with the Northern Expressway and changing KiwiSaver rules to make a young person in New Zealand up to $400,000 better of when they retire. This plan will create jobs, lift wages and lower price increases for Kiwis.
“Whangārei is my home and I’ll be campaigning hard to re-elect a National Government and represent Whangārei as its next National MP.”
