 1. More protection for Auckland’s playground, the Hauraki Gulf 

National will campaign on further restricting commercial fishing in the Hauraki Gulf. We know the coalition’s decision in 2025 to allow commercial fishing in two of the Gulf’s 12 High Protection Areas caused widespread concern from the many Kiwis who regularly use this key recreational waterway. That’s why National will reinstate the ban on all fishing across the Hauraki Gulf’s High Protected Areas.

2 Move on orders will keep your city streets safer 

We are providing Police with the power to issue move-on orders to deal with disorderly public behaviour in our cities. It’s all about reclaiming our city centres for the enjoyment of everyone who visits, lives and works there. Move on orders mean Police can require someone to leave a specified area for up to 24 hours. Police will connect people with support services if they need them.

3.Beat cop patrols double 

The number of Police foot patrols has nearly doubled under National with 13 Community Beat Teams now on patrol.  This week a new team in Hamilton joined the teams already patrolling the streets in four Auckland suburbs, Rotorua, Tokoroa, New Plymouth, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Invercargill. Increasing Police visibility is making our streets safer for Kiwis.

4.200 new homes Fast-tracked for Hawkes Bay

More than 600 jobs will be created with the Fast-track approval of a new residential housing development in Hawkes Bay. Approval has been given for the 200-home Arataki subdivision in Havelock North, which will create work for local people, bring investment into the area, and deliver more homes for families choosing to build their lives in the Bay.

5.Violent crime victim numbers plummet – and youth crime down again 

Restoring law and order and keeping Kiwis safer has been a priority for National. Latest data shows the number of victims of violent crime has fallen by 49,000 and serious youth offending is down 22 per cent.
