Sunil Kumar is a business owner with a background in business and financial services, bringing practical insight into the challenges facing local families, workers, and small businesses. He has built his life with hard work, enterprise, and community service. He studied business and financial services, equipping him with the knowledge and practical skills to succeed in the private sector.

Sunil is a successful business owner based in the Glendene electorate, where he operates a local business. His day-to-day work gives him firsthand insight into the challenges facing local families, workers, and small businesses, and informs his practical, solutions-focused approach to economic growth and community wellbeing.

He has held key leadership roles within the National Party, including Campaign Manager for the Te Atatū Electorate during the 2023 General Election, where he led a successful campaign and supported a wider volunteer network across 12 electorates. Following this, Sunil served as Membership Officer in Te Atatū from 2024 to 2025 and has continued in this role in the Glendene electorate since August 2025, strengthening grassroots engagement and building strong local networks.

Sunil is an active and committed member of his community. He serves as an Ethnic Warden with NZ Police, working to strengthen trust between communities and law enforcement and contributing to safer neighbourhoods. He is also involved in a range of community and cultural organisations like Waitākere Indian Association. Also be part of Hospice initiatives, supporting theatre events with a group called Social and activities that bring people together and provide meaningful community support.

His involvement extends to environmental and youth initiatives. Sunil has been participating in beach clean-up campaigns with Earth Action Trust and is passionate about youth development through sport. He is actively involved in community cricket leagues, coaches an under-10 hardball cricket team at Waitākere Cricket Club, and organises annual cricket tournaments to encourage participation, discipline, and teamwork among young people.

Sunil maintains strong connections with local businesses and residents through regular engagement and community initiatives. He has also contributed to organising key events within the electorate, including visits from senior national leaders and community engagement programmes, ensuring local voices are heard and represented.

Deeply connected to the Glendene electorate through his lived experience, professional work, and ongoing service, Sunil is committed to building a stronger, safer, and more connected community. His approach is grounded in practical outcomes, collaboration, and a clear focus on improving everyday lives.

Sunil says, “I am honoured to be selected as National’s candidate for Glendene and will work hard every day to help re-elect the National Government on 7 November — focused on safer communities, stronger local businesses, opportunities for young people, and a better future for all New Zealand families.”
