Rima Nakhle

MP for Takanini

Rima Nakhle is the MP for the Auckland based electorate of Takanini. The Takanini electorate was established in 2020 and includes Alfriston, Conifer Grove, Goodwood Heights, Manukau Heights, parts of Flat Bush, parts of Manurewa, Randwick Park, Takanini, The Gardens, Totara Heights, Waiata Shores, and Wattle Downs.

Elected in 2023, Rima brings a background in law, business management, transitional housing, and community service to her role in Parliament.

Born in Sydney to first generation Lebanese immigrants, Rima moved to New Zealand over a decade ago, after marrying her NZ born husband Roger, and has lived in Manurewa ever since.

Rima completed a degree in law from Western Sydney University and was admitted to the New Zealand bar in 2014.

Before entering Parliament, Rima was the executive manager of Te Mahia Community Village, a family-owned business in Takanini providing transitional and emergency housing. Recognising the profound challenges which come with needing transitional housing, Rima and her husband set up a charitable trust aimed at benefitting the families within the Village. She has and continues to support youth to get to school and sport, believing these two avenues are key to better personal outcomes.

In Parliament, Rima is privileged to serve as Deputy Chair of the Māori Affairs Select Committee and is a member of the Justice Select Committee. She is proud to be part of the National-led Coalition Government, focused on growing NZ’s economy to make life easier for her neighbours in Takanini, as well as restoring law and order, improving public services and is committed to getting Mill Road done as a Road of National Significance.

Rima’s key priorities include:

  • Growing the economy to bring down the cost of living
  • Safer streets and neighbourhoods by cracking down on crime and supporting safety camera installations
  • Getting Mill Road done and grade separation
  • Supporting the build of a new primary school in Flat Bush, new classrooms around the electorate and school building upgrades

Rima is committed to being a strong voice for Takanini and delivering results that matter to her community.
