Nancy Lu 陆楠
National Party List Member of Parliament 新西兰国家党国会议员
It is a privilege to again stand as a National Party List-Only candidate at the 2026 General Election.
Over the past three years, I have had the honour of serving as a Member of Parliament and working alongside communities across New Zealand. I have travelled the country listening to people from all walks of life, helping individuals navigate government services, advocating for stronger communities, and ensuring the voices of our diverse ethnic communities are heard at the heart of government.
When National came into Government in 2023, New Zealand faced some significant challenges. Inflation had reached a 32-year high, interest rates and mortgage repayments were climbing rapidly, and many families were struggling with the rising cost of living.
Today, while we know many New Zealanders are still feeling financial pressure, we are seeing encouraging signs that our economy is moving in the right direction. Inflation has fallen significantly, interest rates have reduced, mortgage costs are much lower than they were, business confidence is recovering, and the economy is expected to continue growing. Our Government remains focused on fixing the basics and building the future so every New Zealander has greater opportunities to succeed.
Since entering Parliament, I have worked hard to deliver practical outcomes for the communities I represent. I have advocated for fairer immigration and visa settings, successfully championed the first ring-fenced mental health funding dedicated to Asian communities, strengthened relationships between ethnic communities and their local National MPs, and worked with community organisations throughout New Zealand to improve access to government services and opportunities.
As a Member of Parliament, I have served on Parliament's Finance and Expenditure Committee, scrutinising legislation and government spending, while also working across communities to strengthen New Zealand's economic future and social cohesion. I also serve as the Deputy Chair of the Regulatory Review Select Committee. I am proud to serve as Co-Chair of Parliament's North and Central Asia Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, helping strengthen New Zealand's relationships with one of our most important regions.
Throughout my time in Parliament, I have remained committed to being an accessible and hardworking MP. Whether meeting with families, businesses, schools, cultural organisations, charities, industry groups or community leaders, I believe good representation begins by listening.
As I said in my maiden speech, I want every child growing up in New Zealand to have the opportunity to succeed in a country that is safe, prosperous, and full of opportunity. I remain proud of our unique New Zealand identity, our multicultural society, and the values that unite us. Those values continue to guide me every day as I serve in Parliament.
Before entering Parliament, I worked as a Chartered Accountant in accounting and audit in Ernst & Young and PwC and later worked in finance managerial positions in commercial businesses and as the Lead Financial Strategist at Auckland City Council. I also completed a Master in Public Administration at Harvard Kennedy School, experiences that continue to shape my practical approach to public service and policy.
I migrated to New Zealand as a young child and completed my education here, from primary school through to university in Auckland. Like many migrant families, I understand both the opportunities and the challenges of building a life in New Zealand, and that experience continues to inspire my commitment to public service.
As a National Party List MP, I will continue travelling throughout New Zealand, working alongside communities, supporting local National MPs, and earning every Party Vote for National.
There is still much more to do. I look forward to continuing to work hard for New Zealanders as we continue to fix the basics, build the future, and create a stronger New Zealand for generations to come.
I speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese, and welcome constituents from every part of New Zealand to get in touch. It is a privilege to serve you, and I look forward to continuing this journey together.
