Building the Future

New Zealand's Next Billion Customers

  • Pursue new trade agreements with fast-growing and high-value international markets.
  • Help New Zealand exporters access customers more easily and competitively.
  • Reduce unnecessary trade barriers and streamline border processes.
  • Strengthen the security of essential supply chains.
  • Support businesses with new digital tools to make exporting simpler.
  • Create more jobs, increase incomes, and strengthen local communities.

The next phase of National's trade agenda focuses on growing opportunities in markets that together represent almost one billion potential customers. These markets are experiencing strong economic growth and increasing demand for the safe, high-quality food, products, services, and innovation that New Zealand is known for.

National will also continue supporting exporters by modernising trade processes, expanding digital trade systems, and reducing red tape so businesses can get their products to market faster and at lower cost.

By helping Kiwi businesses reach more customers overseas, New Zealand can increase exports, attract investment, create jobs, and raise living standards. National remains committed to its goal of doubling the value of New Zealand exports by 2034 and ensuring more New Zealanders share in the benefits of a growing economy.
