Barbara Kuriger MP for Taranaki-King Country
Barbara is the current MP for Taranaki-King Country, and a shareholder in 2 family owned farming businesses.
With a lengthy career of dairy farming behind her, focused succession planning has created the opportunity for Barbara to transition from full time farming, to follow her passion for the Agribusiness industry into the roles of governance, coaching and leadership.
She was named the 2012 Dairy Woman of the Year and has been a member of the Boards of DairyNZ, Primary ITO Board, Taratahi, Dairy Women’s Network, and NZ Young Farmers. Barbara has completed an Institute for Strategic Leadership MBA and is a past scholarship recipient of the Food & Agribusiness Market Experience (FAME). In 2014 she became a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Directors.
Barbara is a strategic thinker, enjoys a challenge, and participates and guides others to fulfil their aspirations. She is highly regarded in the agricultural industry and is seeking more opportunities to collaborate with other industries to promote regional growth.
In 2014 Barbara was elected as the MP for Taranaki-King Country. In Parliament she is the Deputy Chair of the Health Select Committee, as well as being a member of the Primary Production Select Committee. In 2017 she was elected to be the Third Government Whip. Barbara splits her time between her electorate and Wellington, and is extremely driven in her responsibilities as an electorate MP.
