2017 is now looming large on our horizon and Christmas is just this weekend!

Again people are using the familiar phrases  -“that snuck up fast!” and “where did the year go?”

In the hurly burly of preparing for Christmas Day, the festive break and greeting the New Year it is always useful to reflect on the year past.

A quick look back through my diary proves it has certainly been a busy one for me in the Rangitata electorate with openings, visits, meetings and events alongside talking with constituents and assisting them where possible.

The numbers for the electorate show 20 visits to schools, 17 visits to various businesses, 46 meetings with executives and senior organisation leaders and seven meetings where I hosted our older citizens and “chewed the fat” about the issues that concern them.

Also tucked in the diary were visits to A&P Shows, hosting the Prime Minister Rt Hon John Key in Ashburton and Temuka in July and hosting five Ministers on visits to the electorate along with nine MPs.

Alongside those listed above are the visits I make to voluntary and professional groups and organisations both voluntary and professional in the district. A recent visit to the Menz Shed in Ashburton brought me up-to-date on their plans to move to a new, larger and permanent location. It was also heartening to hear of the work they do for other organisations like mending toys for the Toy Library and see the camaraderie and friendship that Menz Shed members enjoy.

I was delighted to open Community House Mid Canterbury’s new premises on Cass St. and celebrate the work that had gone into renovating and refurbishing the building formerly occupied by Work & Income and Child Youth & Family. A couple of months later I was able to show then Prime Minister John Key what had been achieved there.

Another opening I thoroughly enjoyed being involved with was Radius Millstream Rest Home. Last week I joined in their Christmas Party and enjoyed talking to residents and hearing how they are settling in.

The Ashburton District is a busy and vibrant part of the Rangitata Electorate. I thoroughly enjoy being a part of it, celebrating its successes and working for positive outcomes for its challenges. It is a privilege and pleasure!

Please have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy celebrating the start of another year. May 2017 bring you all you hope, happiness and good fortune.
