This Government is refusing to say whether it will sign up to the United Nations Global Compact on Migration in Marrakech on 10-11 December.
This compact defers our immigration policy to the UN. It also restricts the ability of future governments to set immigration and foreign policy, and to decide on which migrants are welcome and which aren’t.
Countries such as the US, Australia, Israel, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia are all refusing to sign up to it, citing major concerns. National is opposed to it but this Government refuses to tell New Zealanders what its position is. That’s not good enough.
