National’s plan to get New Zealand back on track

National will strengthen New Zealand’s economy so we can:

  1. Lower the cost of living
  2. Lift incomes
  3. Build infrastructure
  4. Restore law and order
  5. Deliver better health and education.

A National government will set targets and deadlines so New Zealanders know what to expect and when to expect it. By being accountable, National will get New Zealand back on track and help all New Zealanders get ahead.

The importance of a strong economy

New Zealand must get its economic engine humming again.

It's not about the economy for the economy's sake.

It's about people - it's about lifting incomes, creating new jobs and being able to afford the public services that hard-working Kiwis deserve. It's about better health care, an education system that equips our kids for success, and meeting our climate change goals.

We don't need an economy built on ideology. We need an economy built on people working hard on every farm, in every business, and in every community in this great country.

National's plan to kick-start New Zealand's economic engine

A National government will:

  • Restore discipline to government spending and get the books back in order
  • Provide income tax relief, because hard work should be something to encourage, not something to tax
  • Grow the skills to create the workforce we need by fixing broken immigration settings, and getting our education system back to basics
  • Build infrastructure to unlock growth - delivering the projects Kiwis need to get to work, and businesses need to get their products to market Encourage technology and innovation.
  • Be ambitious on the world stage. New Zealand is an open trading nation in the heart of the fastest-growing region in the world. The opportunities are massive - National will make sure Kiwis can harness them.
  • Get Wellington out of business. New Zealand has no shortage of amazing businesses and people with good ideas. They need a government that doesn't tangle them up in red tape.
