South West Christchurch will benefit from a significant Government investment in police and the wider justice sector, National Party candidate for Wigram David Hiatt says.
Prime Minister Bill English last week announced a $503 million package to increase frontline police presence and further help the justice sector reduce crime.
“Knowing there’s a nearby police presence at all times is something our community expects, so National is making a commitment that people in both the regions and cities, including Christchurch, will have officers they can call on 24/7,” Mr Hiatt says.
“The Hornby police station provides a key role in the rapidly developing South West of Christchurch. The community will welcome this increased support.
“Our half-a-billion dollar Safer Communities package unashamedly targets offenders to ensure they are off our streets – by providing additional resources to resolve more crime, target criminal gangs and organised crime.
“We’re boosting police staff by 1125, including 880 extra frontline officers, with all police districts across the country getting more sworn officers.
“Investments like this show the benefit of National’s sensible economic management that has helped New Zealand get back on its feet, tackle natural disasters, and now build for growth.”
