Kuriger reselected for 2017 Election
Barbara Kuriger MP has been reselected by National to contest the Taranaki-King Country electorate at the 2017 General Election.
"I’m a proud National Party MP who shares the National Government’s understanding of the importance of a strong economy and rewarding hard work,” Mrs Kuriger says.
“It’s an honour to represent Taranaki-King Country. There is something for everyone in this electorate, it’s the best region and group of hard working Kiwis you’ll find.”
Stretching from the outskirts of Hamilton down the west coastline to northern New Plymouth, the Taranaki-King Country electorate mixes the best of rural and urban New Zealand. Mrs Kuriger was first elected in 2014 and increased National’s Party Vote to over 61 per cent.
“Whether you’re on a farm in Piopio or running a business in Te Awamutu, the National Government is backing our hard-working local communities to create jobs and support families,” Mrs Kuriger says.
“We’ve stood steadfast by our farmers while they’ve faced challenges, we’re helping manufacturers and small businesses grow, and we’re making real improvements to important local services like roads and schools.
“It’s great to see the increase in connectivity and mobile coverage across the electorate, helping our rural schools, businesses, and communities thrive.
"I am delighted with the massive investment in road safety right across the electorate, particularly the $130 million Awakino/Mt Messenger bypass delivery.
“I also know first-hand the benefits a booming tourism industry brings, and am excited to have the Government acknowledge this with funding injections to the Pureora Timber Trail, the Raglan Ocean Trail Mountain Bike Park, and the Maungatautari Ecological Sanctuary. Our schools are also benefiting, from new classrooms and communities of learning to the complete redevelopment of Te Wharekura o Maniapoto.
“Taranaki-King Country has benefited from National’s sensible economic management and track record of getting things done on your behalf. I’ll continue to be a proud supporter of rural and provincial New Zealand.
“I’ll be running a strong campaign to ensure Taranaki King-Country keeps its strong voice in the stable John Key National-led Government that has delivered a clear plan for New Zealand’s future.”
