Hamish Campbell - March Update

It’s a very busy start to the year both in Ilam and in Parliament.

We’re currently in the middle of a four-week sitting block in Parliament working long hours to get our 49 points actioned and passed in to law before day 100, on March 9. Our action points include stopping work on the Jobs Tax and Auckland Light Rail, repealing the Ute Tax, cancelling fuel tax hikes, and getting the Reserve Bank focused on reducing inflation. We’re also underway with getting public sector expenditure under control.

This National-led government will not shy away from making those difficult choices, we all know are necessary, whether that be around gangs, 3 waters, health, crime, or education.

Locally in the Ilam electorate, we have had two very successful events in February. Around 100 people joined us to celebrate the Chinese New Year at a dinner and then Hon Penny Simmonds was guest speaker at our February luncheon which again was well attended. Thank you to the hard-working volunteers who make our events so successful.

What’s coming up?

Our March luncheon will be Friday March 22 (due to Easter) at 12 noon at Crockfords, 218 Riccarton Road (Parking on site) Members and non-members welcome. Cost $15, Raffles $2 ea or $5 for 3 as usual. Our guest speaker is Suze Redmayne. MP for Rangitikei and National's Junior whip.

Our April luncheon will be on Friday April 26 at 12 noon at Crockfords, 218 Riccarton Road (Parking on site) Members and non-members welcome.    Cost $15, Raffles $2 ea or $5 for 3 as usual. Our guest speaker is Tom Rutherford. MP for Bay of Plenty

This month…

13 years after the earthquake I was shown through the Christ Church Cathedral by CCRL Chair, Mark Stewart, and Project Director, Keith Patterson. A lot of meticulous planning and work is going in to the reinstatement of this iconic symbol of Christchurch.

My family enjoyed coming along with me to Culture Galore, a successful annual event put by our local City Councillors and Community Board members.

Great to celebrate the many cultures we have in Ilam.

You will have noticed a lot of roadworks and upgrades going on in the electorate. I have been meeting with local contractors to keep up to date with what’s happening.

It you want to know what, where and why it’s happening in your area click on this link. Work in your area : Christchurch City Council (ccc.govt.nz)

My electorate office is at the Fendalton Village, 5/376 Ilam Road (cnr Ilam/Clyde Rds). A good location, easy access and advertising is quickly making it a busy place. For me, meeting Ilam residents at my Monday Clinic is a priority.

The office is open Monday through Friday 9-3pm. Because we’re often out in the electorate, I encourage people to make an appointment by either phoning us 03 3593665 or by email [email protected]

Kind regards,
Hamish Campbell
