The National-led Government is delivering its ninth Budget on Thursday May 25th.

Budget 2017 will see fresh ideas from a strong, unified Government.

Under the direction of Prime Minister Bill English, Budget 2017 will renew National’s commitment to growing our economy, building for growth, and supporting Kiwi families.

The Government’s pre-Budget announcements so far include:

$812 million to reinstate State Highway 1 between Picton and Christchurch – a hugely important route for the Canterbury economy

$321 million as part of a Social Investment package to support vulnerable Kiwis. The 14 measures within this package will help us identify those at risk of welfare dependency and ensure they are supported into work

$60 million extra for Pharmac over four years. This investment will give more than 33,000 Kiwis better access to high-quality medicines

$74.6 million for research and development – helping Kiwi businesses innovate, grow and perform on the world stage

$178 million for vital tourism infrastructure. This funding will be go towards toilets, campgrounds and carparks, along with improving our DOC estate, to support our growing tourism sector

$303.9 million to provide more grants to our screen industry – supporting Kiwi jobs and showcasing our talent to the world

$59.2 million to ensure all ambulance road call outs are double crewed

$21.3 million to fight possums, rats and stoats that threaten our native bird population

$89.7 million towards irrigation investments to deliver economic and environmental benefits through better use of water

$5.2 million to expand the Teach First NZ programme – training teachers in subjects where they’re really needed

These announcements show National is serious about getting Kiwis into work and investing in our essential services.

Our forward-looking, stable Government is in stark contrast to the Labour/Green opposition – an opposition unable to agree on anything and incapable of bringing new ideas to the table.

While the opposition infight about list rankings and policy positions, our National team is focused on delivering results for New Zealanders and their families
