I've just finished my first week at Parliament and what an incredible honour it is to be there as the MP for Bay of Plenty.
I was sworn in on Tuesday and then on Wednesday we had the Governor-General read the speech from throne outlining our Government's plans for the next three years.
Select Committees
I'm pleased to let you know that I have been appointed to the Transport & Infrastructure and the Governance & Administration Selection Committees.
Transport and Infrastructure has responsibility for business relating to transport, transport safety, infrastructure, energy, building and construction.
Governance and Administration looks at business related to parliamentary and legislative services, Prime Minister and Cabinet, State services, statistics, internal affairs, Fire and Emergency, civil defence and emergency management, and local government.
I'm really happy with both of these appointments and I am looking forward to working hard and making meaningful contributions on both for the betterment of the Bay of Plenty and New Zealand.
Maiden Speech
Some of the new Members of Parliament gave their maiden speeches this week and they were simply brilliant. At the moment, I don't have a set date for my maiden speech, but I know it is going to be in the New Year, so as soon as it is finalised I will let you know.
Electorate Office
Our local Bay of Plenty Electorate Office on Domain Road in Papamoa, has been getting a bit of a makeover this week, with new signage being installed, fresh paint on all the walls and some new furniture too.
I'm looking forward to it all being completed soon and having the office fully functioning in the New Year.
How can you stay connected?
I'll be sending regular email updates out over the next three years, and you're on the list already. If anyone else you know would like to get them, they can subscribe here.
