Rugby World Cup 2011

RWC 2011 is an unprecedented opportunity for New Zealand.  It will be the biggest event ever held in this country, and we plan to make the most of it. The tournament will inject over $700 million into the economy at a time when we need it.

Rugby World Cup 2011 will see all eyes on New Zealand.   We are now expecting over 95,000 international visitors and 2,000 international media.  The Cup will be watched by millions of viewers in over 100 countries, so we will be showcasing New Zealand internationally at every opportunity.

Our visitors may be here for the rugby, but they are also tourists and business people.  This is the first time a Rugby World Cup host nation has staged a nationwide showcase and festival alongside the tournament and National is proud to be a part of this.

The REAL New Zealand Festival and the REAL Showcase will demonstrate New Zealand’s unique talents in food & beverage, culture, business innovation, creativity, and industry to the world. Everybody, from volunteers, to Government, to businesses, have been working hard. We are now ready to face the world, and have a good time while we’re doing it.

The tournament starts on 9 September and runs until 23 October.  The opening ceremony in Auckland will be followed by the All Blacks versus Tonga match.
